Перші в Великобританії регулярні пасажирські рейси гелікоптерів почалися 9 травня 1950-го під час проведення Британської промислової ярмарки.
Перші міжнародні виставки були покликані показати промислову та державну міць представлених на них країн. Основними експонатами таких форумів були не тільки унікальні зразки науки і техніки, але і прекрасні ювелірні вироби із золота і дорогоцінних каменів.
На промисловій виставці у Великобританії польоти між Лондоном і Бірмінгемом виконувалися гелікоптером S-51 виробництва фірми "Вестланд". S-51 - пасажирська модифікація гелікоптера. Збудований фірмою "Sikorsky Aero Engineering Corporation". Вперше злетів 16 лютого 1946 року. Кабіна вміщала пілота і трьох пасажирів.
Український винахідник Ігор Сікорський розробив гелікоптер ще в Україні 1909 року. Гелікоптер тоді не злетів. Конструктор на цьому не зупинився і продовжив конструювати літальні апарати. Згодом у США він заснував успішну вертолітну компанію. Майже 90% всіх гелікоптерів побудовані за конструкціями українця. Свої гелікоптери він вперше випробовував сам.
