У некрополі візантійського міста Телль ес-Сін на території сучасної Сирії знашли скелети сотень людей, які, ймовірно, майже не страждали від зубного болю.
Аналіз показав, що цих людей поховали в період від V до VII століть нашої ери на лівому березі річки Євфрат, повідомляє сайт Університету Барселони.
71 скелет вивчили в лабораторних умовах. Середній зріст чоловіків становив 174,5 см, а жінок - 159,1 см. Ці показники були типові для всієї Візантії.
Дослідження кісток також показали, що ці люди страждали багатьма хворобами. Серед них рахіт і гіперостоз. Багато з обстежених людей померли від інфекцій.
При цьому люди мали хороший стан зубів. Вони не страждали від зубного болю так, як їхні сучасники з інших регіонів. Тільки у 2,8% досліджених зубів вчені виявили карієс.
Щоб пояснити цей феномен, дослідники приступили до детального вивчення порожнин рота. Вони планують визначити раціон харчування місцевого населення.
